Workflow help - Using Patterns from other projects?
Does anyone have any advice for workflow on re-using patterns between projects? It takes a LOT of time to make a collection of patterns (and effects, sound reaction, etc). All my previous work with the old version of HeavyM was lost when upgrading. I have begrudgingly accepted that loss. But I am trying to figure out how to re-use patterns between projects and can't seem to figure it out in the new version either.
To re-use these patterns, I used to just load an old project, and then save it again under a new name. And I can use all my old patterns and apply them. This is a terrible workflow that I was using, but it sort of worked. But, now when I have to re-create all my patterns, I find I am trying to do this simultaneously for multiple projects. So this method doesn't work. Because I have to 2x / 3x / 4x the work all the time. If I am creating projects with large amounts of scenes, this is completely not possible. Am I missing something? What workflow does everyone use when applying patterns?
Ideally, it would be nice to build a library of them that could be used between projects. Could be categorized/tagged for things such as for use with video, or sound reactive patterns, or color patterns, or line patterns, fast / slow, etc.. And then the patterns can easily be accessed between projects and imported easily. To take that even further, and to help build the community engagement, then these patterns could even be shared publicly if people wanted...

I can only agree with you that the way to 'store' patterns (Maps) is not an efficient workflow. What I have done for patterns I want to re-use is rename the Map, then save the file as name(mapname). I can then bring that map into another file as I want. This limitation here is that the shapes are saved in the map but no controls for them and not even the grouping, so when it's imported you have only the shapes in in group, so far from efficient.
Do hope that this is improved over time or completely re-worked.

Thanks for your response. So, EVERY pattern you want to re-use, you have to save it as a map. Then import it into a new project, for EACH map? And then re-allocate each shape back into the group that has the patterns on it?? Wow. That sounds like an absolute nightmare. But so is the way that I have been doing it too...

Yes, that's the best (only) way I have found. You can import from any project but maps do not maintain effects when copied, so it's had work I agree. I have requested some similar solution for the midi settings as although they are saved its only in the project, so each project has to be setup. I must admit I got the standard response of they are considering it but no plans. It is strange as the application is close in cost to other applications that are much more 'mature' with the workflows well considered.

Hi all,
At the moment yes, you can only share Maps (geometry patterns) between projects, since 2.9.
Regarding group effect patterns, we're trying to move it up the backlog and implement it in one of the next releases. We still have a few technical hurdles to check out but we hope to have a system ready for 2.12 to give you an idea.
Have a nice day.
