Transferring project from one computer to another
CompletedHi Im preparing a project which needs to run on two computers at the same time. I have prepared my project which has over 50 sequences and many video clips and shader but when I transfer the whole folder including the assets to the second computer HM loses the links to the assets. It is still trying to load them from the original location. Is there any solution to this or d I need to rebuild all of the assets on the second machine. Thank you.

Hi all,
We've improved the workflow for this as of 2.8.0, it's explained here: https://heavym.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/6611135681810-Collect-Save-and-file-handling
A HeavyM project is now stored in a special folder, with an asset subfolder. An option allows you to collect all your assets in this folder and in the event that a file still goes missing, you can locate it from the interface. To transfer a project to another computer, you simply have to move the project folder!
Have a nice day.

Hi James,
I have looked at an .hm file and it would seem that there are full path statements '<filepath>' used, so it looks like HM needs exactly the same file path including the drive. I have not tried to modify but using a text editor you could change all the <filepath> refs. I use Sublime text editor and it has a find replace option. Good luck and make sure you have backups of the files.

Hi Thanks so much for this information. I will try your idea. It would be a great improvement if in a future release Heavy M could solve this as Im sure many more people must have a need to transfer projects from one machine to another. Thanks again for your help.

Hi again. Just to let you know that your suggestion worked perfectly so thank you very much. You have saved me a lot of time as my project has 49 sequences with many video clips. Hopefully Heavy M will incorporate a feature similar to Premier Pro's project management system in future so a project can be saved with all media attached to it for easy transfer. Thanks again.

Great to know it worked. Yes HM should add user prefs that enable local drive / directory settings etc. Hope your 'show' goes well.

Hi all,
We're currently working on "replacement" and "bundle export" features instead of making you do all the work in the project file. (Nice workaround though!)
I can't give you a precise date but we hope to implement it in the near future in one of the next few releases.
However, there's already a solution for this that should work and be a little bit quicker than the text editor workaround (I'm a little bit late to the party sorry). At reload, HeavyM looks for the original path of your external files yes, but it also searches in the folder where your project is located. So if you put all of these in the same folder (with no subfolder!) you should be good when you move to another computer.
Hope that can help!

Lea,
Thanks for the 'official' line. Its good to hear some consideration to more file/project flexibility. If this allows the creation of a 'library' of reusable sequences it would be very useful, so having the kind of cut & paste across projects.
Regards.

Hi Lea thanks for your reply. I wish I had known about putting the assets in the same folder but it is good to know for the future. My project covering two large buildings is now complete ready for a show at 5pm today. Thanks again to mrcidavies for helping me during the preparation.
