Feature Wish List
The new version has a TON of amazing features and definite potential, but I really feel that some of the features are not as usable as they could be due to implementation and workflow issues. Here are some things I found that would be more than useful to consider:
- How to share color palettes and effects. Organize, tag / keyword, share between projects.
- Interface. This definitely needs a complete overhaul to use standard features (think like Illustrator). This would be more efficient to save space, align panels into a proper workflow that makes intuitive sense, and eliminate the awkwardness of the non-standard interface. I haven't checked lately, but the adding of sequencer cue points has the same problems too. And sometimes windows get stuck open, so I have to quit and restart the program. The mouse also doesn't highlight the items properly when going through the output setup (even at 100% zoom).
- Workflow. Would be VERY nice to thoroughly think through the workflow of all these features when working on multiple projects at once, eliminating unnecessary duplication of effort, sharing patterns / effects on multiple projects, using multiple maps with similar and different shapes. Right now the workflow seems haphazard. Perhaps I just haven't figured it out. But I am currently pulling my hair out on unnecessary redundant efforts...
- SLOW DOWN the effects and LFO. 1/2, 1/4 just doesn't give the subtlety and fidelity needed for some of the patterns. Everything is simply too fast for many of the patterns and effects. There must be a way to re-implement this which would result in much more powerful effects when subtlety is needed. Right now, the low end values are not even in the ballpark of where they need to be. Basically all things speed related should have MUCH greater sensitivity on the low end. And many other values of sliders, I never use the high end, and the low end needs much more difference. Certainly the model of 1/2, 1/4 could be improved, since adding 1/8 and 1/16 would be better, but still wouldn't solve the situation.
- Low-end Adjustment of Opacity. Just like the speed and LFO, I often want to adjust the opacity at the low end of the scale. The opacity is really not sensitive at the upper end, so I find that I am always adjusting between very minute values at the VERY low end of the opacity spectrum. The sensitivity seems strange, and is difficult to work with. I am not sure if its a linear value between 1 and 100 or it is scaled differently.
- Auto-Vectorize. It would be nice to edge-detect and auto-vectorize some shapes from the background image. This could save a lot of work.
- Feather edge selection. Usually I work with hard edge projection surfaces, however, when I am projecting onto sculptures, it could be nice to have a feathering option in some cases.
- Collapsible menus. Cannot easily see the values (color / speed / width / spacing / etc). This might seem like a good idea to save space, but I find it really increases the workflow a LOT. Because every time you want to take a look, each collapsible arrow must be clicked. I would rather zip down a longer list with a scroll wheel. Much faster. Or have a checkbox to turn on/off which ones are being used. This would visually tell which parameters were being used.
- Add a BREATE mode. Sine, square, trapezoid are great additions and all have their uses, but they look very mechanical much of the time. Adding a breathe mode which has an easing in/out factor would probably be very very nice.
- I used to use one of the global SHAKE effects. It might have been called something else before, but it was a great effect to make everything shake quickly when the big bass kicks in. Has this been removed? I cannot easily find it anywhere. It would be sad if this was lost since it gives a MUCH more immersive experience especially when dancing around a big projection. Maybe its here and I just can't find it. It could also be nice to apply that only to some shapes too.
- The Show Geometry check is always defaulted to on, which is very annoying. Remember settings would be good.
- Group Layers. Would be beneficial, just as in all the Adobe products.
- Random seems to use the same seed for everything being randomized, which has the result of everything being randomized together, which looks, well, not random. Is there a way to introduce a different seed for different shapes or effects?
If there are better ways or better workflows to address these issues, I would very muchly appreciate help with what I can do better to address these issues.

6 & 7 are what I am begging for!!!! This is kind of something Lightform capitalized on and it makes creating objects and odd shapes so much quicker than manually creating each and every single little point

Hi all,
Lots to digest there! Thanks a lot for the feedback, this is very precious to us.
2.11 is already set and we're still in the decision process for 2.12+ so I don't have much in terms of updates on these but here's what I can say:
- 2: although we'd really like to have a fully flexible interface, it's a big investment technically so don't expect it for the next version unfortunately. But we'll work on resolving compatibility issues with high resolution displays.
- effect presets, 4, 7, 13 : we'll try to bump it up the list for 2.12
- 6, 12: not in our plans at the moment.
- 13: HM1 postshaders will be back (improved!) in 2.11
Have a nice day!
