Autofill/AutoShape via Picture/spatial scan
Now that Lightform is out of business, I think this would be HeavyM's huge opportunity to add a similar feature that allows you to scan your scene/objects with a camera, and then be able to select general shapes or inconsistent shapes the same way Photoshop allows you to select areas of a picture. This would be SOOOO much quicker to have a feature that would allow me to simply click an object that has been scanned from the projector viewpoint and then zoom in to adjust the finer details of the object that was auto-created. If this feature were added, it would probably haul in many Lightform users or even users that want to use a program like Lightform, but cannot since they are out of business.
Everything about this software is so good so far but this addition would blow HeavyM out the water

Hi Trevor,
Thanks for the suggestion, you're not the only one thinking about this! I totally understand the need but I have to say that at the moment this is not something we have planned for the near future. This would require quite some time and technical changes and we have things planned before this can happen.
We'll try to let you know if we make progress on the subject. If others would like to see this, please vote for this thread in order to help us prioritize.
Have a nice day!

Hello Lea,
I find it very sad, that this is not in the near pipeline, because it tangents the core element of mapping.
The most tedious part of projection mapping is setting up the canvas to the real world.
Nowadays there are projects, running in the browser, which have hands detection etc. running on smartphones. So, there are solutions... even mobile ones for edge detection. This is the sort of feature that separates a good VJ software from a great/visionary one, since it removes so much of the unnecessary work, that is no fun at all.
Maybe that is something to consider/prioritize.
Non the less - HeavyM is great. Thank you for steadily devoloping it. <3

Hi Eugen,
Thanks for the input and the kind words. I do understand your point about this technology being more common nowadays and the frustration that comes with it not being in HeavyM, but the software not being a web app and already having a geometry/drawing system means the integration would still require quite a few structural changes to the code. I'm not saying we're giving up on this idea, not at all, but with the team resources available at the moment it just won't be possible for the next 2.12 release at least.
Thank you for pushing us to improve HeavyM, have a nice day!

Hi Léa,
Please so much people needs this improvement! Our team still uses Lightform in our events, as the mapping is only one element of the whole production, so we need a quick and easy tool to work. I just bought yesterday your Pro+ software thinking that this feature will obviously available with my camera but it isn't! How is this possible? Isn't HeavyM the easiest mapping system?
Please don't give up with this important upgrade as you will receive a very good feedback from new customers as me. Where can I vote for it?
Regards,
Rafael

Hi Rafael,
Thank you for the feedback. You can vote on the right of the original post to show your interest.
Unfortunately it's highly unlikely that a spatial scan with hardware will come to HeavyM soon, it is not in our plans at the moment. However we always try to make the drawing tools easier and a few improvements are currently in discussion, for instance freehand drawing.
Have a nice day!
